Bury Your Dead

andersbudde This record was a real and pleasant suprise to me. Dark and melodic and very well written, the songs echo fellow Scandinavians Ulver and A-ha (in my ears) as well as New Order and Bon Iver to name a few. But it’s really it’s own, this very personal collection of songs. Hope for huge audience for them - and live performances .. Cheers! Favorite track: How I Lost Your Respect.

You stop believing As a child And you still don’t know these people Who brought you up And time takes Takes its toll I know you’re listening With your mouth And when you speak it sounds like Prayers won’t come out And time takes Takes its toll I heard your self-‐righteous songs They sound so bitter And behind all the vacant smiles Everybody wants you dead Another year has passed And did you get any closer To why you’re still around When everybody wants you dead And that’s everybody including me Behind all the vacant smiles Everybody wants you dead

Here’s your song I guess you earned it And it’s just in time For the funeral Take a deep breath Cause you know why you’re here The sound of your voice Is the sound of despair Save your tears Cause I’m drowning in mine You are the scar That I’ll forever wear You are the scar That I carved myself It’s like my fear of God Is against my will And you’re the killer Behind the laughter Save your tears Cause I’m drowning in mine Traitor!

By the weight of your words I came crashing down And nothing comes close to My will to end you By the look in your eyes I blinded mine It all comes down to My will to end you I’m still waiting for that comeback I’m still waiting for you I’m still waiting for that comeback I’m still waiting for you Sometimes life feels way too long And sometimes life feels way too long

about

Locked in a basement, in a house in the beautiful countryside, we find Jens Rahbek Johansen, who is the man behind Mom & Bear. In this basement he records, composes and produces everything for his band. Emotions, snapshots and his thought are conveyed into immediate and dystopic lyrics, combined with an advanced musical universe. Even though the title of the album ‘Bury Your Dead’ in many ears will sound evil and morbid, the album is about burying the dark and gloomy thoughts, putting away your bad habits and looking forward.

The album has been on the way for more than six years and Jens Rahbek Johansen has played music in over 20 years. Many times he has abandoned this project, it has also been sent to a variety of mixers and producers along the way and some of the songs have even been released before in other versions on the two previous EPs ‘Borderline Reckless’ and ‘Hang ‘Em High*. But now after all those years, the songs are finally finished and are now gathered on an album. A monumental record, documenting the last six years in Jens’ life and made solely for one reason, Rahbek wanted to leave behind something to show the world who he really is, in all his complexity of both darkness and light.

The result is a contrasting work that draws on many musical references and moods. It is both gloomy and breathtakingly propulsive, organic warm and electronic cold, dystopic and hopeful. The sound is voluminous and simultaneous anxiously vibrating into the endless atmosphere. ‘Bury Your Dead’ contains both the magnificent sacral of Arcade Fire and the galloping empty desert landscapes of Other Animals.

All songs are written by Jens Rahbek, but always find their final form in a creative musical exchange between the band’s other members: Ian Gregersen, Jacob Abildgaard, Morten Findshøj and Torben Guldager. The nuances of the predominantly alt. rock and dark folk universe have been refined over the years, but always with the offbeat chords, the haunting vocal, the roaring turmoil, morbid lyrics, and the lurking melodies in the center of it all. The catchy melodies and riffs gives you a desire to dance and sing along while the lyrics and the buzzing noise underneath leaves you with nightmares on the retina. It is at the same time an intriguing and disturbing universe to enter. All at your own risk.
